Floor Slips Assessment Tool (SAT) Slips Assessment Toolused in conjunction with the Surtronic Surface Roughness Test Equipment

SAT is a software tool, which when used in conjunction with the Rz results obtained from the Surface Roughness Testers provides a ‘clearer’ indication of floor slip risk potential.

The Slips Assessment Tool and the floor surface roughness tester should only be used as part of the overall assessment of a floor when used in conjunction with the British Standard and HSE approved Floor Pendulum Test and not to measure floor slip resistance itself. The SAT results could not and should not be used to provide supporting evidence for or against a floor slip claim in a court of law; only Floor Pendulum Testing can do that.

The SAT software is provided free of charge by the Health & Safety Executive and can be easily downloaded and used on a low entry PC, laptop or net book. Click here to link to the Slips Assessment Tool download page. And because it’s free, there are

How the SAT Works

The Rz floor readings are inputted by the floor test operator into the HSE software program and combined with a series of user questions such as floor type, surface contamination, safety footwear used etc giving the operator a ‘reasonable’ static indication of the floor slip risk.

But only the Pendulum Test Values (PTV) are accepted for the purpose of providing a true floor check reading for a court of law
